Introduction
Nahnu Fonts is a WordPress plugin that gathers every font your site uses into one library and serves them from your own server. Your visitors load fonts from your site only, never from Google.
What it does#
- Self-hosts Google Fonts. Browse the full Google Fonts collection, pick the weights, italics and character sets you need, and the files are saved to your site.
- Uses Bunny Fonts by default. While you browse and download in the admin, requests go to Bunny Fonts, a GDPR-friendly mirror of Google Fonts hosted in the EU. You can switch to Google directly in Settings.
- Hosts your own fonts. Upload WOFF2, WOFF, TTF or OTF files. The plugin reads the weight, style and variable axes from each file where it can.
- Supports variable fonts. Upload variable files, or download Google’s variable versions, where one file covers every weight.
- Connects Adobe Fonts. Add an Adobe Fonts web project with just its project ID. No API key needed.
- Loads fast. All fonts load from one small, cached stylesheet. You choose
font-display, the character sets to download and which fonts to preload. - Works where you design. Fonts appear in the block editor, the Site Editor and 13 page builders and themes.
- Gives you CSS variables. Every font gets a
--nahnu-font-{name}variable for custom CSS. - Clears your page cache. When fonts change, 9 popular cache plugins are cleared for you.
- Moves between sites. Export fonts and settings to one .zip file and import it elsewhere.
- Moves you from Jooosi Fon in one click, and keeps its CSS names working.
How it works#
- You add a font from Google Fonts, from your computer or from Adobe Fonts.
- Self-hosted font files are saved to
wp-content/uploads/nahnu-fonts/, one folder per family. - The plugin builds one stylesheet,
nahnu-fonts.css, with an@font-facerule for every active font, the CSS variables and any “Apply to” rules. - That stylesheet loads on every page, and your fonts are added to the font pickers of your editor and page builder.
- Whenever a font changes, the stylesheet is rebuilt and your page cache is cleared.
Nothing is stored in the plugin folder, so updating or reinstalling the plugin never removes your fonts.
Where to find it#
After activation, a Nahnu Fonts menu appears in the WordPress admin with six screens.
| Screen | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Font library | Every font on your site: preview, edit, preload, switch off or delete |
| Google Fonts | Browse and self-host Google Fonts |
| Upload font | Add your own font files |
| Settings | Sources, loading, where fonts appear, privacy, Adobe Fonts, import and export, uninstall |
| License | Activate your license for automatic updates |
| About | File formats, storage, privacy, server checks and developer links |
Screens switch instantly without reloading the page. Only activating or deactivating a license reloads it.
