FAQ and troubleshooting
Quick answers to the questions we hear most, then fixes for common problems.
Frequently asked questions#
Do my visitors connect to Google? No. Google Fonts are downloaded to wp-content/uploads/nahnu-fonts/ and served from there. Only Adobe Fonts, if you connect a project, load from Adobe.
Why Bunny Fonts? Bunny Fonts offers the same fonts as Google Fonts, is hosted in the EU and does not log personal data. Using it means even you, while browsing fonts in the admin, don’t send requests to Google. Switch to Google in Settings if you need variable font files, which Bunny Fonts doesn’t offer.
Where are the font files stored? In wp-content/uploads/nahnu-fonts/, one folder per family, plus the combined nahnu-fonts.css. Nothing is in the plugin folder, so updates never remove your fonts.
Does it work with my page builder? Nahnu Fonts has built-in support for 13 builders and themes plus the block editor. See Integrations. Any other builder can use the CSS variables or “Apply to” selectors.
Do I need a license for the plugin to work? No. The license turns on updates. Without it, fonts and settings keep working.
What happens to my fonts if I delete the plugin? They are kept, so a reinstall picks them up again. To remove everything, turn on Settings → Uninstall → Delete everything when the plugin is deleted before deleting.
Can I upload any font? Only fonts you are licensed to use on the web.
Does it work on multisite? Yes. Each site has its own fonts and settings. On uninstall, each site’s “Delete everything” setting is checked on its own.
Can I use the same font in two weights from different sources? Keep one source per family. A family added again replaces files with the same weight, style and format.
Troubleshooting#
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Font shows in the editor but not on the site | Page cache still serves old pages | Clear your cache. Nahnu Fonts clears 9 cache plugins automatically; others need a manual clear |
| Font doesn’t show anywhere | The font is switched off, or the CSS is stale | In the Font library, check the font’s switch is on, then click Regenerate CSS under Site output |
| Builder still loads a font from Google | “Stop page builders loading Google Fonts” is off, or the builder doesn’t support it | Turn it on in Settings → Privacy. For the theme or other plugins, also turn on Block Google Fonts from the theme and other plugins |
| A page that used a Google font now looks different | The builder’s Google Fonts are off and that family isn’t in Nahnu Fonts | Add the same family in Nahnu Fonts. Pages keep the family name, so your copy is used |
| Bold or italic looks fake (“faux bold”) | That weight or style wasn’t downloaded | Open the family in Google Fonts, click Change weights or character sets, add it and click Update font |
| Accented or non-Latin letters fall back to another font | The character set wasn’t downloaded | Add Latin Extended or the needed set to the font |
| Upload refused: file too large | Your server’s upload limit | Convert to WOFF2 (much smaller), or ask your host to raise the limit |
| Upload refused: not a font | Wrong extension or a damaged file | Use WOFF2, WOFF, TTF or OTF. Re-export the file from its source |
| “Printed inline (uploads folder not writable)” | WordPress can’t write to wp-content/uploads/nahnu-fonts/ | Fix folder permissions; the stylesheet is written on the next change or Regenerate CSS |
| Import and export unavailable | PHP Zip extension missing | Ask your host to enable it |
| Fonts load twice after moving | Jooosi Fon is still active | Deactivate Jooosi Fon |
| Google Fonts list doesn’t load | Your server can’t reach the font source | Ask your host to allow outgoing HTTPS to fonts.bunny.net (or Google) |
