Block editor and Site Editor

2 min readUpdated October 28, 2026

Your active fonts appear in the Typography font picker of every block, and in Styles in the Site Editor. This works with block themes and classic themes.

Use a font on one block#

  1. Select the block, for example a Heading or Paragraph.
  2. In the block sidebar, open Typography. If you don’t see a font option, click the three-dot menu on the Typography panel and turn on Font.
  3. Choose your font. Set weight and style under Appearance.

Use a font site-wide (block themes)#

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor → Styles.
  2. Open Typography.
  3. Choose Text, Links, Headings, Captions or Buttons and pick your font.
  4. Click Save.

With a classic theme, use Apply to selectors or your theme’s settings for site-wide fonts instead.

How it works#

  • Fonts are added to the theme’s font list (theme.json data) with a preset slug like nahnu-inter, so they’re listed next to the theme’s own fonts.
  • The editor canvas loads your stylesheet, so text previews in the real font while you edit. The font pickers and Global Styles previews load the @font-face rules too.
  • On classic themes, a .has-nahnu-inter-font-family class is output, so fonts picked in blocks also work on the front end.

Good to know#

  • If your theme already defines a font with the same slug, the theme’s version wins.
  • Turning a font off removes it from the picker. Blocks that used it keep the setting and show the fallback font until you turn it back on.
  • After moving from Jooosi Fon, its block editor font names keep working while Keep Jooosi Fon’s CSS names working is on.

Turn it off#

Settings → Where fonts appear → Block editor & Site Editor. Your fonts still load on the site; they just aren’t added to the picker.
