Font library
The Font library (Nahnu Fonts → Font library) lists every font on your site, whatever its source, with a live preview. It’s where you edit, preload, switch off or delete a font.
Preview your fonts#
At the top, Preview text sets the sample shown for every font, and the Size slider changes its size. Both are remembered in your browser.
Each font in the list#
Every row shows:
- The font’s name, previewed in the font itself.
- Its source: Google (with Bunny or Google), custom upload, or Adobe.
- Its styles, with a Preloaded tag when any style is preloaded.
- Applied to: the selectors it’s applied to, if any.
- Its CSS variable, for example
var(--nahnu-font-inter). Click to copy. - A switch, Use … on the site. Off keeps the font and its files but stops loading it and removes it from font pickers.
- Edit, which opens the edit panel below the row.
Edit a font#
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Display name | The name shown in the library. The CSS family name doesn’t change, so pages using it keep working |
| Fallback | The generic font used while loading or if the font fails: sans-serif, serif, monospace, cursive, system-ui or fantasy. Added to the CSS variable and “Apply to” rules |
| Apply to (optional) | CSS selectors that use this font site-wide, separated by commas, for example body or h1, h2, h3. Leave empty to choose the font in the editor instead |
| Styles | Every weight and style of the font, each with Preload and Remove |
Click Save to apply. The stylesheet is rebuilt and your page cache is cleared.
Preload#
Tick Preload only for the one or two styles shown at the top of your pages, like your heading font. At most 3 files are preloaded across all fonts. Adobe styles can’t be preloaded, as they’re served by Adobe. See Performance.
Remove a style#
Click Remove next to a style, then Save. Its file is deleted. Undo cancels before you save. Removing every style deletes the font, and you’re asked to confirm.
Delete a font#
In the edit panel, click Delete font and confirm. The font and its files are removed from your server. Pages that used it fall back to the fallback font.
Site output#
Below your fonts, Site output shows:
- Stylesheet: a link to
nahnu-fonts.css, or “Printed inline” if the uploads folder isn’t writable. - Visitor requests to Google: “None” for self-hosted fonts.
- Any warnings from the last stylesheet build.
Regenerate CSS rebuilds the stylesheet by hand. You rarely need it: it’s rebuilt automatically whenever a font changes.
Other panels#
- Move your fonts from Jooosi Fon appears when Jooosi Fon data is found. See Moving from Jooosi Fon.
- Re-download your Google Fonts appears after a move, to fetch fresh copies.
